Australian Government Kneecaps Performance Royalties as Cinemas Ordered to Cease Business.

The Australian government ordered all cinemas closed to help stem the spread of coronavirus. The order was given on Sunday evening local time and will take effect from noon on Monday March 23rd.

This move came as all venues deemed "principal places of socialization" will be closed or severely curtailed in the coming weeks/months ahead.

Prime Minister Morrison explained that tougher measures were put in place because the earlier calls for social distancing were not being adhered to property.

This will effectively pause any performance royalty generation for theatrical performances in Australia. There is no timetable as to when theatrical showings will resume.
